What is training dog caring

When our dogs are in the final stages of their formal training program, they often need time to rest and relax during their downtime.

These dogs are adult dogs over 12 months of age who need a home to take it easy overnight during the week and throughout the weekend.

Since they are in full-time training with our instructors, they have extra guidelines to follow to ensure they don’t interrupt their journey to being matched with a client who is blind or has low vision. They are generally not permitted to travel on public transport, access public places or go to the dog park.

Victoria: Training Dog carers are required to be able to drop the dog to our training centre daily in Kensington between 7am and 8am and pick them up between 3pm-7pm Monday to Friday.

Queensland: Our trainers will collect the dogs from your home in the morning (Monday to Friday) and drop them back in the afternoon daily.

New South Wales: Our trainers will collect the dogs from your home in the morning (Monday to Friday) and drop them back in the afternoon daily. While the dogs are generally in training Monday to Friday, this may vary from three to five days per week, hence we are looking for volunteers who are flexible to care for the dogs on some weekdays, as well as week nights and evenings. If a volunteer application is successful, dogs will be placed with carers in late January – February, 2023.
